MY TIME AT UNIVERSITY - THE UPS, THE DOWNS AND DROPPING OUT

Warning... I have a feeling this is going to be a long post so grab a cup of tea and some biscuits we could be here a while!

So my university experience started in September 2013 when I went to Cardiff University to study Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies. I was no where near ready to leave home and go to university (I was and still am a massive home bird) but I felt pressured to go because it seemed like that's what you just did after a levels. So off I went and surprise surprise I absolutely hated it. The course was nothing like I thought it would be and all I wanted was to be at home. The girls in my flat in halls were lovely but I just had no interest in being there so I went home every weekend from Thursday - Monday. I had a boyfriend at home and was finding it hard to be away from him, as well as being away from my family. I was also very ill with a long term health condition which meant that I found it very hard to go out and join in with freshers events - something which is a big part of your first year of uni! 2 months later I decided to leave university and move back home - what a relief that was!!

When I got home I got a job at New Look and after being a working gal for only a few months I decided that I would go back to university that coming September. This time I decided to apply for The University of the West Of England in Bristol as it is only about 40 minutes from my home. I also decided that Journalism wasn't for me so I applied to study Criminology and Sociology. I studied Sociology at A Level and enjoyed it and Criminology sounded super interesting.

September came round very quickly and I was off to uni for the second time. This time round I was feeling more positive about going and I made more of a conscious effort to settle in. I was enjoying the course and I was going out with flat mates, living in Bristol was the best! I still wasn't 100% sure if uni was for me but things were going much better than the previous year. Sadly, during December I was having some family problems and in the end I felt it was best for me to move back home. As uni was close to home I was still able to commute to uni for lectures and I kept my place in halls so that I could stay for the occasional night. Moving back home was the best thing for me at that time, but it did mean that it made it very difficult for me to make friends during first year and I wasn't able to get involved with things that were going on. As I reached the end of 1st year I decided that university wasn't for me and that I would drop out once I had completed my first year. During the summer between my 1st and 2nd year of uni my relationship with my boyfriend at the time ended and I was pretty devastated about that. This meant that I did A LOT of thinking and realised that I didn't have a clue what I would do with my life if I left uni - so I went back in September to start my second year.

I was still living at home at this point and was commuting to lectures. My course was going well, Criminology (not so much Sociology) was so interesting and I made some friends on my course. In January I moved back up to Bristol with 3 friends from school and this was just the best experience of my life. We had so much fun and pretty much every Saturday my best friends from home would come to stay and we would go out, drink way too many prosecco's and have hungover bed days on Sunday. Finally I was starting to love uni.

Everyone says how horrible 3rd year is, but it was actually by far my favourite year of uni. I had way more control over what subjects I was studying and I loved writing my dissertation which was on the police. I still hadn't made many close friends at uni but at the beginning of 3rd year I met two friends on my course (Adam and Jack) and very quickly they became my best university friends and I spent all of my time at uni with them, we were a little team! Jack is now my boyfriend which is a cute little story to tell. Anyway, after spending a year and a half hating uni and praying for the day it ended - when the end did come on May 12th 2017 I was gutted. I graduated in July 2017 with a 2:1, something which I thought I would never be able to say. It was a very proud day of my life.

Overall, I didn't have a great university experience. This is mainly because, for various different reasons, I couldn't get stuck into university life. This did happen towards the second half of my 3rd year but by this point uni was almost over anyway. I absolutely loved living in Bristol with my friends and I did enjoy the Criminology aspect of my course so it wasn't all bad. I have absolutely no idea what I am going to do with my life now but I have learnt a hell of a lot of life lessons from my university experience and I do have some great memories.

If you are at university at the moment and you aren't sure whether to continue - my advice would be to give it time. In my experience, it does get better and the pride you feel when you walk up on that stage at graduation is like no other!

MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

I have tried out a lot of different skin care on my mug over the years. Over the past few months however I have gone skin care crazy and I have also given up make up wipes (I worked out they were giving me such bad spots!!). So after a lot of trial and error I have discovered some little beauties which work amazingly with my skin. For some background information, my skin type is combination - my t-zone gets oily but I also get some dry patches round my nose.. basically its a bit of everything.

STEP 1. GARNIER MICELLAR CLEANSING WATER
First up is my garnier micellar water. This stuff removes my eye and face make up SO well and it and it leaves my skin feeling so funky fresh. I use the one for sensitive skin because it is gentle around the eyes, but they also do one for oily/combination skin and dry/sensitive skin. I only use the micellar water if I am wearing make up - in the mornings and on no-make up days I will jump straight into step 2...

Price: £4.99 for 400ml (always on offer at boots or superdrug)

STEP 2. LANCÔME GEL ÉCLAT
My next step is to cleanse my face and for this I use Lancôme's gel éclat (very fancy name!). It is a foaming cleanser and smells of roses. I have used this for years on and off but have always come back to it, it leaves my face feeling super clean and soft.

Price: £23

STEP 3. PIXI GLOW TONIC OR MARIO BADESCU FACIAL SPRAY
I am OBSESSED with both of these products. When I started this blog post I couldn't wait to write about these two things because I love them so much <3
So the Pixi glow tonic is an exfoliating toner, I use this after my cleanser 3-4 times a week. It literally leaves my skin feeling like the most clean thing in the whole entire world and the GLOOOOW it gives you is unreal.. I guess that's why its called glow tonic..

Secondly, the Mario Badescu facial spray is a 10/10 all-rounder. On days when I don't use the Pixi glow tonic I spritz this all over my face and it is so fresh and cooling. When I was on holiday in the summer I kept a bottle of this in the fridge and then took it to the pool to cool me down, and let me tell you I was getting some looks of ENVY.. I also spray it onto my face after applying my make up, I don't think it makes my make up last longer but it definitely makes it look better as it gets rid of any excess powder and makes everything blend.

Price: Pixi glow tonic - £18, and Mario Badescu facial spay - £7

STEP 4. THE BODY SHOP DROPS OF LIGHT OR NIP + FAB GLYCOLIC FIX RADIANCE SHOT
Ok so next up is serum and I have two little angels I want to talk about here.
Firstly, the body shop drops of light brightening serum. This is a new discovery of mine and I am loving it. It is a light oil consistency which literally sinks straight into my skin and it smells amazing. It pretty much does what it says on the tin.. brightens. I use this twice a day, morning and night.

Next, the Nip + Fab glycolic fix radiance shot. I just want to say that if you haven't tried any Nip + Fab products then PLEASE do because I think it is an amazing brand and have heard its great for acne prone skin too. Anyway, the glycolic fix radiance shot makes me glow to the high heavens. As soon as you get some out of the bottle you can see a gold sparkly tint to it which won me over straight away! And it smells of grapefruit which I love. Aside from that, it makes me skin look so radiant and also helps to clear the crap out of your skin. I use this once a day 3-4 times a week and I some times mix it with my body shop serum or just apply it alone,

Price: The body shop drops of light - £26, and Nip and Fab glycolic shot - £19.95 (always on offer at boots and superdrug)

STEP 5. MARIO BADESCU HYALURONIC EYE CREAM
I have never suffered with dry skin around the eyes but I do get quite puffy eyes (staying up too late watching videos about puppies on youtube!). This eye cream sinks straight in and I have definitely noticed they are less puffy since I have been using it. I also apply some around my lips before bed and when I wake up they look pout ready plumped! You only need a tiny bit of product so it lasts such a long time before you need to replace.

Price: £15

STEP 6. PIXI ROSE FLASH BALM
Another one from the Pixi range, I use this moisturiser once a day in the morning and it really does brighten up your skin. I also find that it helps to smooth out my complexion and is a great base for applying make up. You can also use it as a treatment mask by applying a thin layer all over your face and not rubbing it in. Love love love!

Price: £26 for 45ml

STEP 7. PIXI ROSE OIL BLEND
Can you guess I love Pixi?! This oil is just the best! I apply a few drops to my face at night and it gives my skin such a luscious glow. My skin is often oily around my t-zone but I find that even though this product is an oil it does not make my skin any more oily it is just super moisturising - so if you have dry skin this will work amazingly with your skin too!

Price: £26 for 30ml

If you are not a fan of oils, the body shop drops of youth bouncy sleep mask is also an amazing night cream. It is classed as a face mask but before I discovered the Pixi oil I was using this every night. It provides an insane amount of hydration and leaves your face feeling so soft and fresh. I also love the texture of this, it literally does bounce!!

Price: £25 for 90ml
